Hedgehogs have a habit of rolling into a ball to protect themselves from predators. They are preyed upon by owls, ferrets, foxes, wolves, mongooses, and badgers.
Hedgehogs are omnivores, meaning they consume plants and animals. Insects, snails, frogs, eggs, mushroom, and berries make up a lot of their diet.
Hedgehog pregnancy lasts between 35 and 60 days, varying between the species.
Hedgehogs are small, rounded mammals that are notable for the prickly spines on their back. These spines are modified furs that are hollow and reinforced with keratin, the same substance fingernails are made from.
Hedgehog size depends on the species, but the average is around 12 inches long.
Most of the species of hedgehog are considered Least Concern, meaning they are not in immediate danger of extinction.
