Guernseys are even-tempered, mild-mannered with a sweet and playful demeanor for the most part.
Guernsey cattle are medium-sized breed, weighing around 1,500 pounds. Their coloration ranges from fawn (light brown) to red. Its coloring may be uniform or piebald (splotched with white).
The breed originated on the Channel Island known as Guernsey. Though its full history is largely unknown, it has been recorded as far back as the 1800s. It may have been derived from cattle imported from mainland France, as well as Dutch cattle.
Guernsey cattle are bred throughout the world, including in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. However, their popularity has somewhat diminished due to the ranchers favoring the Holstein cow.
