Fjords typically have a mild good-natured temperament.
The Fjord horse is a small and stout breed, stocky yet agile. It is typically dun in coloration, with a lighter colored body and darker colored points and markings. Fjords often have a two-toned mane, which is usually styled in a crescent shape that stands upright to accentuate the neck’s shape.
The Fjord is a very old breed. The horses that would become the Fjord are believed to have arrived in Norway over 4,000 years ago. The Fjord breed has been around for around 2,000 years or more, and it has remained pure with very little cross-breeding during that time.
Vikings used Fjords to ride into battle.
Today, Fjords are used for draft work, including carrying cargo, ploughing fields, and pulling carriages. Despite its small size, it is strong enough to be ridden by a person and to pull heavy loads.
