Merhorse
The Merhorse is a mythological creature with the front half of a horse and the rear half of a fish.
Common Name: Merhorse, Hippocampus, Sea-Horse
The Merhorse, or Hippocampus, is usually shown as a creature that combines elements of horses and fish, with the front half typically representing the horse, and the back half ending in a fish’s tail.
The Hippocampus myth exists in many different cultures, including Ancient Greece, Ancient Rome, Phoenician, Etruscan, and Pictish. The name “Hippocampus” comes from the Ancient Greek language and translates to “horse sea monster”.
The Ancient Greek god of the sea, Poseidon (called Neptune in Roman mythology), was said to ride a chariot pulled by Merhorses.
