Vagaceratops
Vagaceratops was a horned dinosaur that lived 76 million years ago during the Late Cretaceous Period. It had a unique frill with a flattened top edge lined with downward curving spikes.
Classification: Ornithischia, Ceratopsidae.
Genus: Vagaceratops (“Wandering Horned Face”)
Species: V. irvinensis
Vagaceratops was likely a plant-eater, like other horned dinosaurs (such as Triceratops). It had a sharp beak and specialized teeth for eating plants.
Vagaceratops had a typical ceratopsian (horned dinosaur) body shape, with four legs and a short tail. It had a bony frill around its head to protect its neck, a horn on its nose, and a sharp beaked mouth. Its frill was flattened at the top, with a row of downward curving spikes along it.
Vagaceratops grew to around 15 feet in length.
Vagaceratops was first discovered in 2001 in what is now Alberta, Canada. It was originally classified as a species of Chasmosaurus (a related horned dinosaur). However, in 2010 it was renamed as its own genus, Vagaceratops. It is thought to be very closely related to Chasmosaurus, as well as another ceratopsian called Kosmoceratops. Both had similar frill shapes to Vagaceratops.
